The Norbleu story

2014

The beginning of the entrepreneurial adventure

Originally from Albanel, north of Lac-Saint-Jean, brothers Johnny and David, along with their father Jean-Claude, developed a 300-acre blueberry farm north of Lac-Saint-Jean.

Although wild blueberries grow naturally, the land needs to be developed, and five years of hard work is required before the first berries can be harvested.

2015

An initial acquisition

In 2015, they acquired Bleuet Godbout, a Charlevoix-based company specializing in the packaging of fresh wild blueberries.

Determined to familiarize themselves with the company’s operations, they stayed in Saint-Hilarion in Charlevoix the first summer, even camping for several weeks.

2016

Bleuet Godbout becomes Bleuet Royal

The following year, they moved the company back to Lac-Saint-Jean with them to be closer to the raw materials and their land. Bleuet Godbout was renamed Bleuet Royal in reference to the crown of a blueberry and the fact that the region is referred to as the “kingdom” in French.

The company quickly became known for the quality of its fruit and the efficiency of its operations. Bleuet Royal has acquired several parcels of land over the years, and it now operates over 800 acres of blueberry fields in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region and surrounding areas.

2018

First forays into food processing

In 2018, they took another major step forward by acquiring a company that specialized in pickled products. This acquisition marked their entry into the food processing industry and unveiled new opportunities.

It also offered a valuable opportunity to gain industry knowledge and enhance their competitive edge.

2021

Creation of the VERIFRUIT brand

Having long prided themselves on the quality of their wild blueberries, the entrepreneurs envisioned making these exceptional berries available year-round in various forms, showcasing their unique flavour and benefits.

Leveraging their years of experience, they introduced VERIFRUIT: an innovative range of dark chocolate-covered frozen blueberries. This launch represented a major advancement in their growth, enhancing their product line and broadening their market reach.

2022

A new plant

With the creation of VERIFRUIT and other plans under development, the entrepreneurs were investing in building their own food production and processing plant in Alma.

This facility was designed to meet their unique needs and facilitate the company’s continued growth.

2022

A prestigious acquisition

At the same time, they acquired Nasuco Canada Inc., a company already producing fudge and butter and cream fudge under the Laura Secord brand, among others.

After spending several months learning the intricacies of producing these renowned confections, the company relocated to the new facilities to merge with the current production. This new segment strengthened their position in the food processing and confectionery industry.

2023

Major investments in the packaging plant

In 2023, the company made significant upgrades to its blueberry packaging facilities in Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.

As demand for fresh wild blueberries surged and the need to expand their distribution network grew, investing in temperature-controlled facilities became crucial for processing blueberries under optimal conditions.

2024

A corporate brand for the family business

In 2024, they founded the Norbleu corporate brand, bringing together all their businesses under a single brand. Norbleu reflects their deep-rooted experience, expertise, and family values.
Each acquisition and creation has been driven by their dedication to authenticity, quality, and innovation. Today, they continue their mission with determination, delivering outstanding products to a growing clientele.”
